Well, I’m at it again. Designing a DVD catered to the sword fighting crowd this time. I’m excited
to collaborate with some great personalities on this project to bring sword fighting to the acting & dancing crowd. The beautiful lines found in dance can correlate with the movements seen in sword fighting. With my background in martial arts and dancing, I have blended the two for an easy to learn experience that is choreographed and broken down into 8 counts, much like you would see in dance instruction.
This is great cross training for dancers and we have a number of talented models who have trained for months to bring a great performance to the screen. I’m still interested in getting more models on scene and I also plan on filming a sequel with more advanced movements – so please get in touch if you oare interested in learning the art of sword fighting.
Most movie actors concentrate so much on dialogue that they don’t really get to do much with a sword – even in big fight scene movies such as Star Wars or Kill Bill. This means most actors spend less than 100 hours of training on swordfighting to create those incredible movies. And what do we remember them for? The fight scenes. With this in mind, you too can learn to fight just like the scenes you see in the greatest sword movies of all time with this first edition of Sword Fighting by myself with MOVFitness.
The cool thing about much of what I’ve learned over the years is how everything is so integrated. This DVD features much footwork very similary to the Tango. The lines created and the alignment principles found in sword fighting can be seen in yoga and dance poses alike. It’s amazing how you can take proper alignment in one art and directly relate it to many other forms.
The Figure 8
Another DVD in the works, The Figure 8, teaches many of the basic principles in self defense. The figure 8 pattern can be see in a number of arts, whether it is self defense, dancing, sword fighting, or even astronomy. Many people look at an arm moving and they see just a glimpse of what is really happening. This DVD shows us the bigger picture to movement overall and how we can manipulate and control that movement to our advantage.
As a swordsman, ballroom dancer, martial artist, boxer, and many more, I have used this technique to quickly learn many different sports and excel beyond the best of the best.
The concept of a continuing figure 8 is taught in a variety of mediums so the viewer can understand the movement and transition all areas of their life into figure 8 movements. A revolutionary look at fitness and body movement, The Figure 8, is a new exciting project I’m about to publish.
I am also working with Veronika Petra on a HoopDance DVD and will be designing an entirely new boxing series for personal trainers. All this and more in 2009 – check back with me if you’re interested in buying these later & we need models right now to film!
Thanks & God Bless – Matt Hackney
