KnitMatt

Posted by krashnik On December - 30 - 2008

Well, it’s been awhile since I’ve made a post here. I took up the hobby of knitting over the wintertime. Thanks to Amelia who is a whiz at it. I thought it’d be nice to try a new challenge that was completely out of my personality. It’s getting hard to find new things that aren’t “me” but I think knitting was definitely one of those.

So, I thought, why not take care of a few things at a time? My sister just had a baby, Isabella. I’m getting ready to fly back east and visit them and what better present from Uncle Matt than a knitted hat, right? So I started on the hat, and boy… what a task! The book said it’d only take about 2 hours and this would be a “fun & easy project!”. Well, 20 hours later, I finally cranked out a hat for lil’ Bella. Here she is in all her beauty below.

Not too shabby for my first project, eh?! So, I found a really cool pattern online for another hat and decided that my other neice might get jealous if she didn’t get one, so below you can see the butterfly hat I made for Lexi. I gotta say that I impressed myself – and even though this one took 20 hours, too – I feel I really am starting to understand this whole knitting thing.

Merry Christmas to both you girls & I’ll be back east soon!

Fall Fitness

Posted by krashnik On August - 8 - 2008

Well, another day passes and fall is getting close. We have some exciting new projects going on and I just thought I’d let you know about them.

We are publishing a book by Eric Frimpong on his autobiography. There is much to be done here, but the proceeds will benefit a program we started called Water 4 Africa. If you don’t know, Eric is in State Prison for 5 more years after being convicted of rape. I’ve personally worked with Eric as he is a nationally ranked soccer champion. I personally feel his story should be heard & his family should be helped.

Another project in the area started by my company is Dancing Kids. One of my clients gave me the idea about a year ago and I wish I could get in touch with her to let her know we are actually carrying it out. We will be going into the minority and low-income schools across the city to teach dancing as an alternative to other extracurricular activities that might take them down a path unwanted by anyone in society. When I learned to dance, it was at a cost of $140 per lesson – something that many families just can’t afford. I believe the joy of dancing should be free to all & I really hope America takes up this craze with the same popularity you find in Europe.

Lastly on the charity train is our new bootcamp program. We are now offering our bootcamps free of charge to anyone in the community. I’m really excited about this and hope it will open the eyes of many who couldn’t afford personal training before. Our program is more of a classroom and education than just a bootcamp. I will run the program through the end of October and market it to see how well it goes. I really hope you guys can come & recommend it to your friends. There is no hidden fees, just a fun class like we’ve always taught.

After a long battle, my book is finally in stores across the nation. It is exciting to see it displayed so I took a picture. Some stores are a little slower to shelf it than others, but I went around all the Santa Barbara stores and it is there! You should support your local bookstores like Chaucer & Paradise Found and buy your copies there.

In publishing, we are ready to take on new authors who would like to get published. We have a contest we will start soon for authors in the fitness industry who would like to get their work published. Submit your proposal or manuscripts and we will look it over. I’ll post up more details on the contest in time to come.

I think this is everything? We are still working on a variety of books which you can check out here: http://www.movfitness.com/books.php

If you are interested in our bootcamp program, send me a message. As always, we have personal training available, too which I think everyone should partake in :)

Enjoy the rest of your summer!
Yours in health,

Matt Hackney
